Fragments of theory, history, and culture

About

Me with Rad Santa, Zuccotti Park, December 2011

Hey. My name is Ryan Moore, I have a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and I’ve taught at UCSD, Kansas, Colgate, Florida Atlantic, and CUNY. These entries are mostly based on my lecture notes, with a few book reviews mixed in.

If you want to check out my published writings, there’s my book:

Sells like Teen Spirit: Music, Youth Culture, and Social Crisis (NYU)

And there’s a few articles you can read or download for free:

EROS AND CIVILIZATION FOR A JOBLESS FUTURE: HERBERT MARCUSE AND THE ABOLITION OF WORK

DIGITAL REPRODUCIBILITY AND THE CULTURE INDUSTRY: POPULAR MUSIC AND THE ADORNO-BENJAMIN DEBATE

The Beat of the City: Lefebvre and Rhythmanalysis
